Volkswagen Car-Net Receives All-New Data Plan With The Help of Verizon And T-Mobile

Volkswagen will be the first automaker in history to work with Verizon and T-Mobile to connect buyers to Volkswagen Car-Net services. Instead of buyers using up their phone data for in-vehicle entertainment, Verizon and T-Mobile will offer an unlimited data plan for Volkswagen Car-Net Hotspot. For existing customers with Verizon and T-Mobile plans adding a car to their account will be as simple as calling their provider and adding it over the phone. Volkswagen’s Car-Net first debuted back in the 2014 Passat, Jetta, Tiguan , and Beetle.  The deals are supposed to start late in September 2021 and will start a new wave for cell phone service providers and automakers around the world to work together.

“Carrier of Choice breaks down the barriers for connecting to Wi-Fi and meets customers where they are in their digital lifestyles,” said Frank Weith, Director of Connected Services at Volkswagen of America. “As consumers start driving more in a post-pandemic world, it creates a window of opportunity for drivers to customize their content and stream reliably.”

  After Volkswagen’s introduction of Carrier of Choice, drivers now have new ways of customizing their own digital content through VW Car-Net to stream directly through phones, tablets, or any other compatible devices. Volkswagen’s Car-Net jumped into a new generation for all 2020 model year vehicles. Car-Net updated its mobile app with an all-new user-friendly app to connect drivers to their vehicles. In addition, users receive a long list of no-charge services for five years and new subscription options. The features drivers have at their fingertips via iPhone or Android devices are remote access, parking information, remote lock, remote start, and much more.

T-mobile and Verizon will offer non-customers an unlimited plan for $20/month, plus any applicable taxes and fees. The plan will be simple to set up and can be just for the vehicle, no need to switch phone carriers. Customers can visit carnet.vw.com or download the Car-Net mobile app to select their mobile wireless provider, verify their account and pair it with their existing Volkswagen Car-Net subscription in a matter of minutes. Starting with 2021 Volkswagen vehicles, select vehicles equipped with MIB3 will offer more infotainment features. 

With an active data plan, drivers will have access to media streaming apps like iHeart Radio and TIDAL media with a paid subscription. Car-Net offers additional subscriptions that offer even more. The Plus Nav subscription for $49/year gives drivers real-time traffic and route updates. The Plus Online Radio subscription for $8/year provides over 30,000 global radio stations. The Plus Speech subscription for $9/year allows drivers to use natural language for safe and convenient control of the phone, media, and navigation features, as available.
