Volkswagen EV plans have hinted at adding two more models to the ID.Family in the upcoming years. The vehicles will be placed under the ID.3 and ID.4 that are already available out on the market. The ID.2 and ID.1 will target buyers looking for affordable electric vehicles for city use. While there have been many speculations about what type of vehicle the ID.2 will take after, Volkswagen has shed some light on the fact it will be yet another all-electric SUV. Some reports have painted the picture of a small SUV, not a hatchback as many anticipate. Let’s break into what we know so far about the Volkswagen ID.2 and the current best-selling vehicle the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4.

The Volkswagen ID.2 is set to start at the same price as a 2021 Volkswagen Golf, but maintain a fully electric drivetrain. VW is already working on an affordable version of its all-electric MEB platform that is Codenamed MEB Entry. The new platform will provide a base for at least four new affordable entry-level electric vehicles across the world. Although, it’s not clear when the ID.2 will debut but rumors have it arriving sometime in 2024. Like all the vehicles in the ID.Family, the ID.2 will offer various battery sizes, the smallest having a range of about 120 miles and the largest battery would nearly double that range to 200 miles range.

While Volkswagen fans wait patiently for the ID.2, the current 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is taking the world by storm. The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 is offered in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive trims. The rear-wheel-drive trims come with a rear-mounted electric motor that pushes power through the rear tires to produce 201 horsepower. As for the all-wheel-drive, the horsepower takes a jump to an impressive 302 horsepower putting its performance up on the charts with the competition. The ID.4 offers one sole battery option which is the 77 kWh battery pack, capable of powering the SUV to 250 miles range. The ID.4 has set a foundation for expectations when it comes to electric vehicles, and the numbers speak for themselves, the ID.4 has been the top-selling electric vehicle in the second quarter of 2021.
