Volkswagen Models Now Feature ChatGPT

ChatGPT’s artificial intelligence (AI) has been added to Volkswagenvehicles using the latest infotainment system. The AI-powered research tool is available in the new Golf, Tiguan, and Passat models, as well as in all new cars in the all-electric ID family. It has many more choices than the voice control that was previously available and may be accessed with the help of the IDA voice assistant. Buyers may now engage with the automobile using natural language and have search results read aloud to them, for instance.

The Volkswagen IDA online voice assistant can already be used to operate the infotainment, navigation, and climate control systems of current Volkswagen cars. In addition, the car can respond to inquiries on a variety of subjects. However, when ChatGPT was introduced, the possibilities have greatly increased. For instance, AI may now report on previous football tournaments, offer information on tourism spots, and assist with arithmetic difficulties. Everything functions naturally, the driver doesn’t have to look away from the road while they converse with the system.
Simple to use, requires no separate account, and customers of Volkswagen who already have an account for VW Connect or VW Connect Plus can use the IDA voice assistant normally, no additional access or app is needed. Pressing the button on the steering wheel or saying “Hello IDA” will start the digital assistant. A question is only anonymously sent to ChatGPT if the Volkswagen system is unable to respond to it. In this instance, the response is given in the recognizable Volkswagen voice. ChatGPT never has access to car information. Answers and questions are instantly removed to guarantee the best possible data security. You can disable the online voice assistant through the VW app’s settings or the infotainment system’s privacy settings.
Five languages are supported by the technology. Volkswagen debuted the first cars with ChatGPT incorporated into the IDA voice assistant in January 2024 at the electronics trade show CES 2024. The system languages for the technology are currently English (US), English (UK), Spanish, Czech, and German. Thanks to a partnership with Cerence Inc., the world leader in automotive AI solutions, and its Cerence Chat Pro, which leverages a number of sources, including ChatGPT, to enable IDA to provide precise and pertinent answers to almost any question imaginable, its use in Volkswagen vehicles is now possible.
