Volkswagen springs into action to address the climate crisis and has launched an ambitious project called “1 Million Minds for Climate Protection”. As part of this project, the company created a specific initiative called “Project1Hour” that focuses on involving Volkswagen employees and dealers in the fight against climate change. The “Project1Hour” campaign aims to encourage Volkswagen employees and dealers around the world to dedicate at least one hour of their time to activities that reduce their carbon footprint and help protect the climate. These activities can include activities as simple as turning off unnecessary lights in the office, taking public transportation or bicycling instead of driving a private car.
“The commitment our Group’s workforce has made to the “1 Hour Project” shows why we are so dedicated. In 2022, more than 295,000 colleagues proposed ideas that we can use to reduce our impact on our environment and our climate at work and elsewhere. We are continuing this commitment in 2023 by raising our awareness and sensitivity to our planet earth even further. This is an important step because we all know that we have only one Earth and that we must manage it with care,” announced Volkswagen’s Human Resources Director Gunnar Kilian.
The “1 Million Minds for Climate Protection” project is part of this effort, and the “Project1Hour” campaign is a concrete way in which the company is asking its employees and dealers to get involved in the fight against climate change . Importantly, individual action is not enough to address the climate crisis. Systemic changes and ambitious government policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avoid catastrophic global warming are needed. However, individual action is an important step in the right direction and can help build momentum for change on a broader level. The “Project1Hour” campaign is also one way Volkswagen is demonstrating corporate leadership in the fight against the climate crisis, on top of that the automaker continues to expand its all-electric ID. Family.
Companies have a strong influence on society and politics and can play an important role in promoting sustainable solutions. By encouraging employees and dealers to reduce their carbon footprint, the company can reduce its carbon footprint itself and meet sustainability targets across the world. Dedicating at least one hour of their time to activities that help improve the environment allows Volkswagen to multiply its ideas in hopes of bringing change faster. The campaign is also linked to World Earth Day, celebrated on April 22. Earth Day began in 1970, with more than 20 million people participating in Earth Day. Today, the number of people participating in Earth Day has grown to 200 million, all of whom participate in multifaceted activities that focus on climate change and environmental solutions.
