The Volkswagen brand has announced that a new series production of the new Golf will begin in the Wolfsburg plant. The New Golf is a revamped eight model generation edition in an anemone blue metallic. Volkswagen’s main factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, has been producing more than half of the 37 million Golf models produced worldwide, an average of 400,000 units annually has earned the title of “soul” of the industry during the past 50 years. This comprises a wide variety of models and powertrains, as well as the eighth generation of the “classic” Golf and its several variants, including the Golf Variant and Golf Sportsvan.
“The Golf has been at the heart of the Volkswagen brand for half a century, offering affordable mobility for all at the highest technical level. The Golf has constantly adapted to customer needs, thus becoming a global bestseller which was made in Wolfsburg. This is precisely what we are building on with the new evolutionary stage – with even higher efficiency, comfort and quality and a new operating concept. The Golf does not get any better than this,” Thomas Schäfer, CEO of Volkswagen Passenger Cars, said.
The new model has an altered front end making it simple to identify its iconic Golf look. The freshly designed LED headlights are one of the aspects that stand out visually. IQ.LIGHT – LED matrix headlights, which are the top of the line, have a new high-performance primary beam that has an extremely long range. The Volkswagen logo in the radiator grille is lit for the first time on a European Volkswagen. Both the Golf and the Golf Variant have a new look for the IQ.LIGHT 3D LED tail light clusters.
A new infotainment system features quicker processors, a free-standing touchscreen , and an easy-to-use menu system are all included in the interior. The volume and temperature touch sliders are now lit. The multifunction steering wheel with simple-to-use buttons and the IDA voice assistant with integrated ChatGPT function are also new. These devices can be used to access online information on almost any subject, from flight information to general knowledge inquiries, in addition to controlling devices like the air conditioning, phone, and navigation systems.
The Volkswagen Group had even more cause for celebration, the factory in Wolfsburg celebrated the 48 millionth vehicle to come off the assembly line a few days before the new Golf went into production. No other automotive plant in the world has produced nearly as many cars as the factory in Wolfsburg. Unsurprisingly, the anniversary model was a Golf. “48 million is an impressive figure that would never have been possible without a motivated and skilled workforce,” Jürgen Mahnkopf, Deputy Chair of the General and Group Works Councils, said. “Our employees have put their heart and soul into every single vehicle that has been built here over the last 50 years.”
The most produced model at the plant is the Golf, with an estimated 20 million vehicles produced annually. The Beetle comes in second position, having been produced in Wolfsburg in close to 12 million vehicles between 1945 and 1975. With just about 3.5 million units leaving the assembly lines since the model’s launch in 2007, the Tiguan is currently ranked third. It has surpassed the Polo, where more than three million units have been produced since the Mittelland Canal location opened for business in 1975. “The connection between the Golf and the Wolfsburg plant is quite unique: Wolfsburg is the Golf and the Golf is Wolfsburg,” Plant Manager Rainer Fessel said. “As a team we have meticulously planned the start of production over the past weeks and months. Now we are delighted we will soon be seeing the new Golf on the roads.”
