European Battery Materials Company IONWAY Will Open First Production Plant in Poland

A brand new Brussels-based European Electric Vehicle battery material producer IONWAY sets out to build its first CAM production plant in Nysa, Poland. The company will create over 900 industry jobs in Poland, they will be producing cathode active material (CAM) for electric vehicles. Cathode active material is one of the most valuable battery assets. IONWAY believes in erasing its carbon footprint by making its first production site run on renewable energy further pushing the goal of carbon-neutral production. As the production of electric vehicles continues, nothing is more important than ensuring a cleaner process starting from the production plant and ending with every last piece used in the vehicle. 

“We are thankful for the Polish government’s support in IONWAY’s choice for Nysa. The strategic location of the joint venture’s battery materials plant in Poland, right next to Umicore’s own battery materials plant, which is still unique in Europe, will further enable the transition to electric driving that is truly sustainable,” added Mathias Miedreich, CEO of Umicore.

The company didn’t stop there; they made strategic plans with the Polish government for support under the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework (TCTF). The IONWAY joint venture is backed by PowerCo- and Unicode helping speed up the EU impact on the emoji kitty industry. The Polish government is a big supporter of the plan to build a plant in Nysa, expected to create close to a thousand jobs. IONWAY will also be receiving over 350 million in cash grants through the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework totaling an investment of over 1.7 billion dollars by the end of the decade. The TCTF supports sectors that are key for transition to a net-zero economy under the Green Deal Industrial Plan. 

“Today’s launch of IONWAY signals PowerCo’s and Umicore’s commitment to sustainable progress that makes electric cars affordable for everybody, starting now,” said Thomas Jansseune, CEO of IONWAY.

Currently the company is in the process of getting the permits, after that preparations for the site will begin soon after engineers will begin. PowerCo had a high demand for CAM at its Salzgitter cell gigafactory and will secure its production from the plant. Poland was IONWAY’s strategic location when looking for a strong workforce, renewable energy, and will be able to use raw materials from Umicore’s refining operations in Finland.
