World Premiere of the Most Powerful Golf Model

As the Golf R and Golf R Variant roll off the assembly line, Volkswagen makes its global debut with the two brand-new top-of-the-line Golf models. Their output is 245 kW (333 PS), and they have special standard equipment and enhanced driving dynamics. When compared to these models’ predecessors, the new maximum output has increased by 10 kW (14 PS). These two Golf R models, along with the Arteon R Shooting Brake, are now the fastest Volkswagen production vehicles in the world. In Germany, pre-sales begin on July 3.
Based on the eighth generation of the Golf, which underwent a significant redesign this year, are the new R variants. The updated front has LED Plus headlights, an illuminated VW emblem, air curtains in the bumper, and new LED tail light clusters, all of which highlight the car’s dynamic nature. As an optional extra, the new 19-inch “Warmenau” forged wheels are offered. These are lightweight (each rim weighs only eight kilograms) and feature an attractively simple design. The effective brake cooling system is especially useful when driving on a racetrack.
The largest display (diagonal: 32.8 cm) that Volkswagen offers is part of the redesigned infotainment system, which also boasts updated hardware and software. With updated graphics and a redesigned touch display menu system, operation has also been greatly enhanced. The voice assistant IDA, which uses the AI-based program “ChatGPT” to provide answers, and the lighted touch sliders for the automated climate and volume controls have both been recently developed. The touch steering wheel’s responsiveness has also been improved.
Standard on all Golf R models is the improved Digital Cockpit Pro (display diagonal: 26 cm). The Golf R’s Digital Cockpit Pro includes an improved Sport Skin with an R-specific round rev counter and an R-View with a horizontal rpm display, in addition to the traditional views seen in other models in the series.
The Golf R models have an ergonomically designed cabin that is uniquely honed in the “R” style for the driver. Sports seats with built-in head restraints are atop for the driver and front passenger. The inside will once more be available in an optional black nappa leather with carbon-look accents, blue side area coatings, and a “R logo” in the seat backrest. Real carbon interior applications are also an option. These specifics about the equipment highlight how well the new Golf R’s unique design has been thought out.
With a potent 2.0-liter turbocharged engine producing 245 kW (333 PS), the new R models offer an outstanding output that is transferred to a 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive with R-Performance Torque Vectoring. By dividing the drive power to each rear wheel separately to maximize cornering, the latter increases driving stability and agility.
The extra settings offered on the R-Performance package makes driving more enjoyable. The R-Performance package adds two more modes, Drift and Special. For the motorsport aficionados who drive on roads and tracks away from regular traffic in addition to the increased top speed. The Nürburgring Nordschleife’s conditions have been tailored especially for the “Special” mode. A bigger roof spoiler that routes the air flow provides additional downforce. A GPS lap timer and a G-meter, both of which are shown in the Digital Cockpit Pro, are also included in the R-Performance package for the new model.
Driving is made more enjoyable by the Vehicle Dynamics Manager. German-sold vehicles come equipped with adaptive chassis control (DCC) as standard equipment. With consideration for a number of factors, including steering, braking, and accelerating maneuvers, this system continuously responds to the road surface and driving conditions. The Vehicle Dynamics Manager coordinates and further optimizes the DCC running gear’s lateral dynamic components. DCC thus always offers the best driving dynamics and the maximum degree of comfort. Because of this, the new R-models are able to seamlessly combine ordinary driving and sportiness all the time. The Golf R Variant offers a very high level of flexibility, it offers ample stowage space with a maximum luggage compartment volume of 1,642 liters (with the rear seat backrests folded).
With darkened VW insignia and R logos, black R brake calipers with a dark R logo, black 19-inch Estoril wheels, and black tailpipe trims, the Exclusive Golf R Black Edition is a classy dark vehicle that can be ordered straight from the market launch. Another standard feature is the dimmed IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights. The optional R-Performance package is also included in the equipment scope for other variants.
