Volkswagen of America proudly announces that the ID.4 SUV is the winner of the first-ever SEMA Electric Vehicle of the Year award from the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, held each year in Las Vegas, Nevada. The ID.4 receives the SEMA Vehicle of the Year award because the ID.4 presents an ideal platform for customization, and the ID.4 is capable of mastering a variety of terrains, and sets a great platform for electric vehicles.

“Electric vehicles are an important segment in our industry and the ID.4 is a great example of how these vehicles can be customized. We thank Volkswagen for its collaboration with the aftermarket so that manufacturers can offer a variety of customization options for the ID.4 to consumers,” said Mike Spagnola, CEO of SEMA.

The SEMA Award is given to winners based on the vehicle they feel has the greatest customer appeal and the one with the greatest accessory potential. The ID.4 receives the SEMA Vehicle of the Year award because the ID.4 presents an ideal platform for customization, and the ID.4 is capable of mastering a variety of terrains and sets a great example by highlighting the many possibilities it offers in the electric vehicle market.

For the 2023 ID.4, Volkswagen will pursue assembly of the all-electric ID.4 compact SUV as the result of an additional $800 million investment in North Carolina. The 2023 ID.4 models will be assembled at the company’s state-of-the-art Chattanooga plant in Tennessee. Coming later this year Volkswagen will launch a new 62 kWh battery version, lowering the cost of entry to the ID.4 model line. The ID.4 has a fairly simple offering structure, offering three different versions of the model which are Standard/Pro, S Version, and S Plus Version, and will come with a choice of 62 kWh batteries, 82 kWh batteries, and all-wheel drive.

The standard ID.4 model features a lower entry price and an EPA-estimated range of 209 miles, all thanks to the fact that the SUV is equipped with a 62-kWh battery, while the ID.4 Pro version can reach approximately 275 miles according to the EPA thanks to its 82-kWh battery. Under the hood of the ID.4 Pro model is a unique synchronous motor equipped with permanent magnets that help drive the wheels located at the rear of the vehicle, allowing the vehicle to reach up to 201 horsepower. The ID.4 AWD Pro models are equipped with an asynchronous motor added to the front axle giving the AWD Pro a 295-horsepower boost, according to the EPA the ID.4 AWD Pro has an estimated range of 255 miles.

“Volkswagen is committed to bringing electric mobility to the masses and, as our ID.4 concepts show, electric vehicles can be equipped to suit a wide variety of lifestyle needs,” announced Hein Schafer, senior vice president of marketing and product strategy for Volkswagen of America.
