Volkswagen joined forces with the US Soccer team to take a significant step in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, values that are part of the company’s new “One Nation” social responsibility platform. To make the project more effective, Nissan and US Soccer partnered with the You Can Play Project to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. The You Can Play Project is an organization with a clear mission to ensure that all individuals in sports can express themselves without fear of judgment or rejection. Thanks to this partnership with US Soccer, Volkswagen, and The You Can Play Project, this initiative has been able to move forward and make a positive impact on the world of sport.
Volkswagen’s “One Nation” social responsibility platform was created with the sole purpose of raising awareness about the importance of inclusion and also seeking to foster acceptance and respect in society. This great partnership brings new sporting visibility to the LGBTQ+ community by contributing to the normalization and acceptance of diversity both in sports and in everyday life. To help promote acceptance of diversity, Volkswagen and US Soccer are working together with You Can Play to auction special edition jerseys of the men’s and women’s national teams. The design of these jerseys is inspired by Pride, in which the numbers are colored in the colors of the rainbow. All proceeds from the special edition jerseys will go to You Can Play to help promote a safe and inclusive sporting environment for the LGBTQ+ community. Thanks to this collaboration, several players in the world of sports have been inspired and committed to following the example of these great companies by joining the cause of inclusion and respect.
Fans of the world of sports can now participate in the auction of special edition jerseys for the men’s and women’s national teams. Bids can now be placed on the ussoccer.com/youcanplay website until Friday, August 4, 2023. The auction succeeds in highlighting the LGBTQ+ community by taking a step beyond the Pride Month celebrations held in June. Volkswagen has also put up for auction four official apparel items featuring the VW Pride logo design, which is autographed by USWNT players Ashley Hatch, Andi Sullivan, and Alyssa Thompson, as well as USMNT legend Landon Donovan. Last year, the campaign surpassed the $85,000 fundraising goal set in 2021, raising more than $92,000 to help make sports safe and inclusive for LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches, referees, and fans. This year, the partnership between Volkswagen, US Soccer, and You Can Play Soccer promises to be a powerful set of efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in sport, making a positive impact on society and shaping a path towards a more inclusive and respectful world on and off the field.
