Volkswagen and Shell Advance on the Expansion of Charging Infrastructure

Shell and the Volkswagen Group are working together to drive the expansion of the charging infrastructure for electric mobility. On May 4, 2023, the first innovative Elli Flexpole 150 kW charging station was inaugurated at a Shell service station in Göttingen. This station is a breakthrough in electric vehicle charging technology as the station is capable of charging several vehicles at once and has a charging power of 150 kW, which means that electric vehicles can charge much faster than before. 

“With the VW Elli Flexpole charging stations, we can make an important contribution to the necessary expansion of the charging infrastructure. And in places where fast charging would otherwise be difficult. Shell is already one of the largest providers of charging infrastructure at home, at work, at lampposts, and at our service stations. We want to do our part to enable customers to switch to an electric vehicle and thus reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector,” says Tobias Bahnsen, Head of Shell E-Mobility Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. 

This new Elli Flexpole charging station also has a sleek and modern design that blends perfectly into the urban environment. In addition, the new station is very easy to use and is equipped with all the necessary safety features. The opening of this first Elli Flexpole charging station is only the beginning of the collaboration between Shell and Volkswagen, the two companies plan to install more charging stations throughout Germany and in other European countries.
